Description

Official English Exam - BEPC Session 2022

This official BEPC English exam for the 2022 session is a comprehensive national examination document, accompanied by a detailed answer key. It covers the four standard sections of the BEPC English exam with strong and current themes.

Exam Structure:

  • Section A - Grammar (10 marks): Two exercises. The first is a dialogue between Stephen and Sammy addressing the practice of "breast ironing" and human rights, testing verb forms (ironed, coming), possessives (their), prepositions (by), and conjunctions (either). The second exercise is a gap-filling text about twins (Haniel and Habib), testing concessions (although), comparatives (more intelligent), reciprocal pronouns (each other), quantifiers (few), and past participles (married).
  • Section B - Vocabulary (10 marks): Two parts. An exercise with provided words (sore, fatty, conscious, waste) on the themes of health, nutrition, and time management. A free exercise covering respect for the national flag, hygiene-related diseases, floods, recycling, and sanitation.
  • Section C - Reading Comprehension (10 marks): A dense argumentative text on the relationship between poverty and the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The text analyzes how economic migration, survival prostitution, medical and funeral expenses, and lack of infrastructure worsen the epidemic in Southern Africa. Questions assess analytical comprehension and the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Section D - Composition (10 marks): Three topics to choose from: a formal letter about inter-ethnic marriages, an essay on the importance of English and bilingualism, and an informal letter about the usefulness of a smartphone for studies.

This exam is intended for Form 4 students preparing for the BEPC. The major themes (human rights, HIV/AIDS, poverty, bilingualism, technology) reflect a commitment to grounding the exam in contemporary African social issues.
