Official PCT Exam (Physics - Chemistry - Technology) — BEPC Session 2021

Exam Structure

The exam is built around three assessment areas:

• Knowledge Assessment: this first section covers the fundamental concepts of the curriculum. Questions address the notion of chemical element, covalent bonding and its representation, the concept of the mole as a unit of amount of substance, refining of crude oil, the characteristics of alternating voltage, electrical power and its units, simple machines (levers, pulleys, inclined planes), and simple cutting in technology. This section evaluates the student's ability to recall and organize knowledge.

• Applications Assessment: the second section presents students with problems requiring calculations and a rigorous scientific approach. It includes an exercise on the dissolution of sodium sulfate (Na₂SO₄) with determination of molar concentrations of different species in solution, as well as a mechanical study on the displacement of a 6-cylinder engine and the calculation of piston stroke. These exercises develop analytical skills and mastery of mathematical tools applied to science.

• Competency Assessment: the most elaborate section deals with a complete domestic electrical installation. Students must produce an execution diagram including a two-way switch setup to control a light point from two locations, properly protected power outlets, and a fuse ensuring the installation's safety. Additionally, students are asked to propose electrical safety slogans raising awareness about the dangers of household current.
