French Exam - BEPC Session 2021

This official French examination for the Brevet d'Etudes du Premier Cycle (BEPC), 2021 session, is a comprehensive document covering all linguistic skills assessed at this level. It consists of three distinct sections: spelling correction, written expression, and text analysis, in accordance with the official Cameroonian curriculum.

Part 1: Spelling Correction

The proposed text, entitled An Unhappy Boy, is an excerpt from Afrika ba'a by Remy Medou Mvomo. It tells the moving story of a persevering young boy who, despite social exclusion and material hardship, clings to education by following lessons from a tree branch. Candidates must identify and correct grammar, spelling, accent, and punctuation errors scattered throughout the text.

Part 2: Written Expression

Two topics are offered for choice:

• Topic 1 (Argumentation): Candidates must analyze the phenomenon of young people preferring foreign films and music, presenting the causes, advantages, and disadvantages of this behavior in an organized discussion.
• Topic 2 (Narration): Candidates recount meeting a family member they haven't seen in several years, describing distinctive physical traits and the feelings experienced.

Part 3: Text Analysis

The supporting text is an excerpt from Les Frasques d'Ebinto by Amadou Kone, in which the narrator expresses his passion for well-done work and the personal satisfaction he derives from it. Questions are divided into three sections:

• Comprehension (6 points): propose a title, identify the narrator, identify expressed feelings.
• Vocabulary (6 points): explain words and expressions, build word families, identify the lexical field of school.
• Language knowledge and usage (6 points): analyze subordinate clauses, transform direct speech to indirect speech, identify verb moods, tenses, and aspects.

A detailed answer key is included for each of the three parts, with precise grading scales. This document is an essential preparation tool for ninth-grade students preparing for the BEPC. It allows practice under real exam conditions and helps understand examiners' expectations.

Skills assessed include spelling proficiency, argumentative and narrative writing ability, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and French grammar. This exam is particularly recommended for BEPC candidates in Cameroon and French-speaking Central African countries.
