French Language Exam - BEPC Session 2020
This document presents the official French Language examination from the BEPC (Brevet d'Etudes du Premier Cycle) 2020 session, along with its partial answer key. The exam is structured in three distinct sections: spelling correction, written expression, and text analysis, providing a comprehensive assessment of candidates' linguistic competencies.
The spelling correction section features a narrative text entitled Encounter with a Gorilla, in which candidates must identify and correct spelling errors. This literary text describes a dramatic confrontation between a man and a gorilla, involving past participle agreements, subjunctive conjugations, adjective agreements, and homophonic confusions. The exercise evaluates mastery of fundamental spelling rules and critical proofreading ability.
The written expression section offers two topics to choose from. Topic 1, with an argumentative focus, addresses the dangers associated with motorcycle use as a means of transportation, based on an article from Cameroon Tribune. Candidates must explain the reasons why students use motorcycles, present the dangers to which this means of transport exposes its users, and provide safety advice. Topic 2, with a descriptive focus, deals with the impact of climate change on the environment. Candidates must describe the circumstances of a natural disaster, the damage caused to nature and living beings, and propose advice for environmental protection.
The text analysis section is based on an excerpt from La Poupee Ashanti by Francis Bebey, describing the NIMA neighborhood, an emblematic place of African contrasts. The exam comprises three components: comprehension (analysis of the neighborhood's contrasts, reasons for the prohibition of roulette, strategies to circumvent the law), vocabulary (meaning of figurative expressions such as reaching for the moon, word decomposition, antonyms and homonyms), and language knowledge and usage (exclamatory sentences, figures of emphasis, noun phrase expansions, subordinate clauses and syntactic transformations).
This document is intended for Form 4 students preparing for the BEPC examination, French language teachers, and anyone wishing to practice with an official French exam paper with correction elements.
