This mock examination in Physics, Chemistry and Technology (PCT) was designed by Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaoundé in preparation for the BEPC 2020 session. Produced by one of Cameroon's most renowned schools, this paper offers a high level of rigour and an excellent simulation of the official examination for Form 4 students.
Part A, devoted to "Resource Assessment", comprises two exercises. Exercise 1 on knowledge recall explores four themes: properties of matter with definitions of electrolysis and chemical reaction, along with writing ionic formulae (sulphate, potassium); motors with the definition of piston stroke and electric motor, valve positions and the role of the brush-commutator system; electrical installations with the concepts of electrocution, maintenance and the distinction between circuit breaker and short circuit; and finally petroleum with refining and petroleum fractions. Exercise 2 puts this knowledge into practice through problems on aqueous solutions (dissolution of aluminium chloride, calculating molar concentrations), internal combustion engines (displacement, bore, piston stroke) and motion transmission (gear trains).
Part B presents a rich and realistic problem situation: Papa Francois's electricity bill. The student must analyse a domestic installation (freezer, iron, television, lamps), explain why the circuit breaker trips through electrical power calculations, determine the minimum number of lamps to remove to avoid overload, and verify the amount on an ENEO bill by applying the progressive tariff system with brackets and VAT. This exercise mobilises skills in calculation, analysis and solving concrete everyday problems.
The detailed answer key is included, with all formulae, numerical applications and step-by-step explanations. Definitions are rigorously written and calculations are verifiable, making it an excellent resource for independent revision.
This mock examination is a first-rate preparation tool for the BEPC. It covers all key chapters of the PCT syllabus: solution chemistry, engine mechanics, domestic electricity, petroleum and plastics, and motion transmission. Its difficulty level faithfully reflects that of the official examination.
