Description
Official English Exam - BEPC Session 2019
This official BEPC English exam for the 2019 session is a comprehensive national examination document, accompanied by a detailed answer key. It assesses the four fundamental English language skills: grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and written expression.
Exam Structure:
- Section A - Grammar (10 marks): Two main exercises. The first is a dialogue to complete between two students discussing bilingualism week activities at their respective schools. Candidates must provide coherent expressions to complete the exchanges. The second exercise offers a gap-filling text about a mental health center and psychiatric care, testing the choice between passive voice, pronouns, articles, and quantifiers.
- Section B - Vocabulary (10 marks): Two parts. A gap-filling text about the profession of a seamstress, testing vocabulary related to tailoring and craftsmanship (customers, fabric, tailor, clothes, children). A multiple-choice exercise covering communication (message), food (vegetables, fruit, proteins), and places of commerce (market).
- Section C - Reading Comprehension (10 marks): A traditional tale entitled "The Wicked Step-Mother" telling the story of Christelle and her stepmother. This morally instructive story highlights the virtues of obedience and generosity. Questions assess literal comprehension, inference ability, and the candidate's personal moral judgment.
- Section D - Composition (10 marks): Three topics to choose from: an informal letter refusing an arranged marriage, a narrative/description of bilingualism week, and a speech about HIV/AIDS for youth week.
This document is intended for Form 4 students preparing for the BEPC. The themes (bilingualism, craftsmanship, moral values, forced marriage, HIV/AIDS) are rooted in Cameroonian sociocultural realities and constitute an excellent revision resource.
