This official Life and Earth Sciences (SVT) examination within the framework of Education in Environment, Hygiene and Biotechnology (EEHB) was set for the BEPC 2019 session. This national exam paper provides an in-depth assessment of knowledge in genetics, immunology, first aid and ecology, with a strong emphasis on environmental protection and biodiversity.
Part A, "Resource Assessment", is structured in two sections. Part A1 (Knowledge Assessment) offers an Exercise 1 in MCQ format covering the carrier of genetic information (chromosome), chromosome structure with the centromere, the humoral immune response provided by B lymphocytes, and Turner syndrome (individual with 45 chromosomes). Exercise 2 (open-ended questions) requires defining serotherapy and phagocytosis, then comparing asepsis (preventive method) and antisepsis (curative method). Part B1 (Skills Assessment) includes an exercise on identifying chromosomal abnormalities from a karyotype showing Turner syndrome, and an exercise on applying first aid in cases of stroke, including describing the Recovery Position (PLS).
Part B, "Competency Assessment", focuses on ecosystem protection. The introductory text presents alarming data on the destruction of tropical rainforests, which harbour between 50 and 80% of terrestrial species. It mentions threatened species in Cameroon (Bubinga, Bilinga, Moabi, Okoume) and the link between deforestation and the spread of malaria. The instructions ask the student to present four activities destructive to biodiversity, design a poster proposing conservation and restoration actions, and write a slogan to combat malaria highlighting a means of fighting the female Anopheles mosquito.
The detailed answer key is included, with an assessment table structured by instructions and criteria (relevance, knowledge mastery, coherence). Answers are accompanied by precise indicators and concrete examples of slogans and posters.
This paper is an essential resource for BEPC preparation in SVT/EEHB. It covers key themes: chromosomal genetics, immunology, first aid, ecology and environmental education, while raising students' awareness of Cameroon's ecological and health challenges.
