Description
English Zero Exam - BEPC Session 2018
This English zero exam for the BEPC 2018 session is an official reference document designed to prepare candidates for the format and difficulty level of the examination. It is accompanied by a complete answer key for each section. The zero exam serves as a model for teachers and students to calibrate their expectations.
Exam Structure:
- Section A - Grammar (10 marks): Three distinct exercises. The first is a gap-filling text on the negative effects of deforestation and a dialogue on environmental knowledge (so/because, a little, both). The second is a doctor-patient dialogue to complete, testing the ability to formulate questions and answers in a medical context. The third tests conjugation and sentence transformation: superlative (worst), past participle (made), future tense (will write), gerund (buying), and reported speech (doesn't like).
- Section B - Vocabulary (10 marks): Four exercises. A gap-filling text on career choice and professional skills (software, patient, relatives, advice, income). A verb-complement matching exercise (develop, build, create, make). A comprehensive phonetics exercise including silent letters, stressed syllables, and sound identification.
- Section C - Reading Comprehension (10 marks): An informative and civic text entitled "How to Be a Good Citizen" defining citizenship as a relationship of rights and duties. The text addresses community hygiene, respect for neighbors, national pride, and civic engagement. Questions include multiple choice, literal comprehension, and personal reflection.
- Section D - Composition (10 marks): Three topics to choose from: an informal health advice letter (cholera, clean water), an argumentative essay on social media, and an email about good manners and respect.
This document is intended for Form 4 students and teachers. As a zero exam, it defines the examination standard and constitutes an essential preparation tool. The themes (environment, career guidance, citizenship, health, social media) cover a broad spectrum of concerns assessed in the BEPC.
