Practice Exam (Epreuve Zero) in History and Civic and Moral Education - BEPC Session 2019

This document presents the official practice exam (epreuve zero) in History and Civic and Moral Education for the BEPC (Brevet d'Etudes du Premier Cycle) 2019 session, along with its detailed answer key. The exam covers two disciplines: History and Civic and Moral Education, each structured according to the competency-based approach.

In History, Part A focuses on knowledge verification (9 points). The knowledge assessment requires candidates to define the concept of economic crisis and provide the acronym of a Cameroonian political party from the eve of independence (UPC - Union of the Populations of Cameroon). The skills verification includes a cartography exercise consisting of representing on a map of Cameroon the territory ceded to Germany by France in 1911, as well as a matching exercise between major historical events (Cameroon under trusteeship, Berlin Conference, Cameroon under mandate) and their respective periods.

Part B of History, dedicated to competency verification (9 points), presents a problem scenario involving a land dispute between two neighboring families in Yaounde. Candidates must analyze documents recounting African resistance to colonization, notably the battles of Rabah and Samory Toure, identify the consequences of armed conflicts (destruction, loss of human life, territorial conquests), and propose advice for the peaceful settlement of disputes.

In Civic and Moral Education, Part A covers the definitions of democracy, ballot box, and political party, economic activity sectors in Cameroon, the ordering of electoral operations in their proper sequence (registration, campaign, vote counting, publication of results), and eligibility conditions for the presidency of the Republic (being at least 35 years old, having resided in the country for at least one uninterrupted year). Part B presents a problem scenario about corruption: an electricity company agent demands money from subscribers to fraudulently reduce their bills. Candidates must identify the state institutions mentioned in the documents (police, gendarmerie, National Anti-Corruption Commission) and propose awareness strategies against this practice.

  • Skills assessed: historical and civic knowledge, cartography, analysis of historical documents, identification of conflict consequences, reflection on corruption and citizenship.
  • Major themes: colonization of Cameroon, African resistance movements, land disputes, electoral process, eligibility conditions, fight against corruption.
  • Answer key included: Yes, with detailed answers for both subjects.

This document is intended for Form 4 students preparing for the BEPC examination, history-geography-ECM teachers, and anyone wishing to practice with an official preparatory exam with full corrections.
